Breast Plastic Surgery
Breast Reduction
You may be interested in breast reduction if you have large, heavy breasts, which may be the cause of breathing difficulties, back, shoulder and neck pain, poor posture, bra strap indentations, or chafing under the breasts. You may also desire breast reduction if you have excessive breast size, which may decrease a sense of attractiveness and self confidence. If large breasts interfere with normal daily activities or with exercise, breast reduction may be helpful.
Breast Augmentation
Women who desire larger breasts may wish to have a breast enlargement (augmentation) procedure. Breast augmentation may also be indicated for women who have one breast that is noticeably smaller than the other. Breast augmentation is intended to create larger and more shapely breasts. A more positive self image may also be a result of breast enlargement.
Reconstructive Breast Surgery (including reconstruction after mastectomy)
The goals of reconstructive breast surgery differ from those of cosmetic breast surgery. Reconstructive surgery is performed on abnormal structures of the breasts, caused by birth defects, developmental abnormalities, trauma or injury, infection, tumors, or disease, including breast cancer.
Breast Reduction for Men—Gynecomastia
Men who are uncomfortable with the contours of their chests might consider male breast reduction surgery, which is also known as gynecomastia. Genetics and aging can cause men to have larger than average breast tissue. After weight loss, men may find that they have sagging or excess skin in the chest area. Gynecomastia is intended to remove excess breast tissue and give patients a more masculine chest appearance.
